Wartburg Castle

The most famous castle in Thuringia is Wartburg Castle near Eisenach. This is where Martin Luther translated the Bible when he was in hiding. There is an exhibition and an observation tower. But you can enter the inner courtyard free of charge and let your gaze wander over the forest. At Christmas time there is a medieval market in the courtyard.

The castle is an excellent hike from the Drachenschlucht gorge or from the centre of Eisenach.
